The Prince Albert area was well represented at the the Junior National Weightlifting Championship in Halifax over the weekend, with three local teens scoring medals.

Hollis Finlayson, 14, finished third in the 58 kg. division. The event marked Finlayson’s second time at nationals, but the first time she won a medal.

“It was a great experience, and I was very proud to represent Prince Albert and Saskatchewan in Halifax. My favourite part was being able to experience being on the platform and having the opportunity to watch my friends and teammates lift,” she said.

Finlayson said she plans to continue training and return to nationals again next year.

Colton Anderson, 17, also from Prince Albert, finished third in the 62 kg. division.

“Halifax was an amazing place and [Team Sask.] ended up with four medals, so it was great experience,” he said.

Hannah Jacobson, 18, from Meath Park, also competed in Halifax. She returned home with a silver medal in the 48 kg. division.

Anderson and Jacobson were recently recognized by the Saskatchewan Weightlifting Association as the Top Junior Lifters of 2017.
