P.A. police to investigate in-custody RCMP death

The Prince Albert police will conduct an investigation into the death of prisoner at a northern police detachment.

At 9 a.m. Monday morning, a 44-year-old adult male from the area was found unresponsive in the Pelican Narrows RCMP Detachment cell area. He was pronounced dead on scene.

As per the RCMP’s independent external investigation policy, Prince Albert police were asked to conduct the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the in-custody death. In addition, the RCMP have asked the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent observer. 

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
