‘Rare’ equipment failure at root of power outages

Nov 16, 2017 | 9:59 AM

The two relatively short-lived but widespread power outages in the region late Wednesday were caused by a failure to equipment during maintenance.

SaskPower spokesperson Jordan Jackle said it happened when crews were working on the Senator sub-station south of Prince Albert.

“It knocked out power to approximately 50,000 people so it was fairly widespread. It lasted for 45 minutes in total. We figured out the problem, isolated it, and it has been fixed,” he said.

He said these sorts of equipment failures are “rare and unique”.
