The Prince Albert Raiders added a new defenceman to their roster today.

The Raiders snapped up 1999-born Sergei Sapego through import waivers from the Tri-City Americans, who had selected him in the second round of the WHL draft. Born in Vitebsk, Belarus, the 6’0”, 170-lb Sapego had two assists in three games this season with the Americans. Sapego also represented Belarus at the 2017 IIHF U18 World Championship back in April, managing a goal and an assist over seven games.

Raiders general manager Curtis Hunt said Sapego is a versatile defenceman.

“He has good mobility and a good hockey sense,” Hunt said. “We expect him in Prince Albert tomorrow.”
