Oct 3, 2017 | 6:17 PM

A number of residents are displaced following what is being called a suspicious fire at an apartment block early Tuesday evening.

At around 5 p.m., emergency crews responded to a multi-level structure fire at an apartment complex near the corner of 15 Ave. and 28 St. E.

Fire crews began an “aggressive attack” on what the Prince Albert Fire Department called a “heavy fire” on one side of the building which had spread over three floors. A number of apartments sustained severe damage.

The displaced residents were able to evacuate prior to fire teams arriving. The families are currently in the care of the Red Cross at a temporary shelter.

One firefighter was transported to hospital by paramedics and treated for minor injuries. Parkland Ambulance said paramedics cared for three people with injuries. They were all taken to hospital by ambulance in stable condition. A fourth person was assessed at the scene but did not require further care.

The department says the fire will be investigated over the next few days.
