In 1867, the Dominion of Canada was signed and a mere 20 years later, the Prince Albert and Distrcit Chamber of Commerce was formed.

Since, it has been the voice of business in Prince Albert and Friday, hosted a recognition event for its members.

Boasting a membership of around 425, CEO Larry Fladager says the Chambers milestone is significant.

“[Saskatchewan wasn’t] a province until 1905. In one form or another, we have been helping business do business do business for many years,” Fladager said.

He said business in Prince Albert is optimistic despite the many challenges faced.

“We are like most middle to medium sized cities in Western Canada. There is a bit of a slowdown in terms of oil and potash, so I don’t think it is robust as it once was but it is good, very good,” Fladager said.

Membership, though stable over the years, has seen a recent boost. Fladager said the Chambers has built a solid base with strong, supportive sponsors.

Moving forward, Fladager said the Chamber is focused on growing the city as a regional economic service centre for central and northern Saskatchewan.

“If there is business interested in providing support for the region’s professionals…we are really focused on supporting them build a city of services for this region,” he said.
