Victim of attempted murder has scooter stolen

Aug 24, 2017 | 5:27 PM

A double amputee burn victim who nearly died after an attempt on her life has received insult to her injuries after discovering her mobility scooter stolen last month.

Marlene Bird requires a wheelchair since she was brutally attacked and set on fire by Leslie Black in 2014.

Bird has a home in Timber Bay where she can freely ride a scooter without help, but the scooter and other items were stolen from her home last month.

Without her scooter, Bird said she feels “lonesome,” and less independent.

“I want to go around by myself instead of depending on people,” she said.

Bird also said she is afraid to go back home after finding the letters “TS” written in red on her fridge upon discovery of the break-in.

She said she filed a police report and added officers came to her house the same day to take photos.

Bird is still waiting to hear her attacker’s sentence. The courts are currently determining if Black will be designated as a dangerous offender which carries an indefinite prison term. The decision will be handed down on Aug. 30.
