Team Sask. pitcher tosses perfect game

Aug 2, 2017 | 10:30 AM

It’s something every pitcher dreams of when they take the mound but very few accomplish – tossing a perfect game. But one man managed to do it on one of the biggest stages in Canada.

Nick Patrick of St. Louis pitched yesterday at the Canada Summer Games fanning all 21 batters he faced as Team Saskatchewan beat Team British Columbia 3-0 in men’s softball action.

Team Saskatchewan is now 8-0 in the competition heading into today’s game with Team P.E.I. at 11 a.m. CST.

The 21-year-old Patrick struck out 16 batters in the victory while allowing only one B.C. hitter to hit the ball out of the infield.

Saskatchewan finally reached the medal podium on Tuesday.

Saskatoon’s Kieran Johnston captured the silver medal in the Men’s Decathlon while Courtney Hufsmith of Saskatoon won the bronze in the Women’s 3000-metre steeplechase competition.

Other top finishes for Saskatchewan included 21-year-old Cole Fry of Langham finishing fifth in the Men’s Hammer competition yesterday with a throw of 47.18 metres while Leadon Chartier of Saskatoon also finished fifth in Women’s Athletics.

Team Ontario leads the medal count with 20 medals (6 G-9S-5B), British Columbia is second with 15 medals (5G-5S-5B), and Quebec sits third with 13 (8G-2S-3B).
