Rainfall in P.A. makes for significantly wetter fields

Jun 15, 2017 | 2:00 PM

Seeding has essentially concluded in the province, according to the latest weekly crop report.

Ninty-nine per cent of crop is in the ground, which is two per cent ahead of the five-year provincial average for this time of year. The Prince Albert region is actually region furthest behind at 97 per cent.

This week’s rainfall will help refresh topsoil moisture, particularly in the southern areas.

As for the Prince Albert area, topsoil moisture is at a surplus — specifically 43 per cent. The report states because of excess moisture, crop development has been slower than normal. Most of last year’s crops have been combined, but some harvest remains.
