Crown stays fraud charges against former administrator

May 26, 2017 | 12:00 PM

The Crown has stayed fraud charges against a former official of the Village of Meath Park and the R.M. of Garden River.

Elaine Esopenko, 57, who oversaw administration for both the village and the R.M. was charged with four fraud-related offences including fraud by a public official after discrepancies were discovered in the village’s financial records last spring.

The Crown stayed the charges against Esopenko late last month after several court appearances in Nipawin, effectively halting the proceedings. In an emailed message yesterday, Melfort Crown Prosecutor Tyla Olenchuk confirmed the matter was stayed because the prosecution did not feel a conviction was likely, based on the available evidence.
