Four in custody after brief standoff in Buffalo Narrows

Jan 16, 2017 | 4:06 PM

With help from the Emergency Response Team from Regina, four alleged drug traffickers in Buffalo Narrows were arrested this afternoon after a two-hour standoff.

Buffalo Narrows RCMP detachment commander, Staff Sgt. Joanne Derworz said the incident stemmed from a search warrant on the premises.

“As a result of a drug investigation (which started earlier in the weekend) we executed a search warrant and based on history with some individuals, they can have weapons in these events, so we asked for the assistance of the Emergency Response Team from Regina,” she said.

Unable to give an exact number of officers who were part of the raid, Derworz said there were over 20 at one point who came from Regina, Dillion, Buffalo Narrows and other surrounding detachments.

After nearly two hours, four suspects were taken into custody without incident, which included three adults and female youth.

Derworz added no officers, members of the public or suspects were injured.

While a court appearance for the four suspects isn’t known at this time, Derworz said there’s still a lot of work to do in the investigation.

She added more information, including a court date, will be made available as the investigation wraps up.

Names were not released at this time.
