P.A. woman grateful for Victoria Hospital and Give-A-Little-Life

Tracy Bear can attest to the need for the best surgical equipment possible.

The Prince Albert woman broke her leg playing softball last August. Four days later she had surgery and now has six pins and a plate in her right leg. While the accident happened in Swift Current, Bear wanted to attend the Victoria Hospital.

“They gave me the option to go to Saskatoon if I didn’t want to wait because of the pain but they gave me enough pain meds to do me until I was able to get my surgery [in Prince Albert],” she said.

Money raised from this year’s Give-A-Little-Life day campaign will go towards purchasing new and additional surgical equipment for Victoria Hospital.

Bear said she is very grateful for the care she received.

“From the operating time to the time you have to wait, the recovery time, you are well cared for. There is always someone there willing to go the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable,” Bear said.

There are over 5,600 surgeries performed at the Victoria Regional Hospital every year.

Over the last 11 years, the Give A Little Life Day campaign has raised over $4.5 million for patients.

The radiothon Friday can be heard from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 900 CKBI, XFM and Power 99 FM. Donations can be made online www.helpthevic.ca, at the hospital in the main lobby, or by calling 306-763-7421 or toll free at 1-800-667-9000 to make a pledge during the broadcast.
