5 new beds for Shellbrook health centre, still at reduced capacity

Sep 28, 2016 | 10:00 AM

Shellbrook’s health centre will soon have more beds.

Starting Oct. 3, five additional beds will be available for patients at the Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook.

Carol Gregoryk, vice-president of integrated health services, said staffing levels now means they can offer 15 beds.

“Work continues with our staff members and physicians to ensure we have appropriate staffing for the provision of safe patient care,” Gregoryk said in a press release.

The Parkland Integrated Health Centre is still down from 20 beds, the number available until late Aug. when they reduced inpatient capacity.

The goal is to once again have 20 beds available after reviewing staffing levels.

To entice employers to work in Shellbrook, changes are coming to their incentive program for rural nurses and temporary positions.

“The health region is committed to reopening all inpatient beds once we’re able to ensure stable staffing levels are adequate to provide safe patient care,” Gregoryk said.
