Mother of dead child makes court appearance

A brief court appearance by a Regina woman accused of contributing to the death of a three year-old boy has revealed a more disturbing insight on an already troubling case.

The Regina Police Service now confirms that she is in fact the mother of the child. 29 year old Anna Marie Rose Wilkes stood before a Provincial Court judge today (Thursday) accused in the death of her own son.

The Crown is alleging she failed to get Nylan Jordan George Clark medical attention that could have saved his life. Wilkes is also accused of attempting to burn the body inside of the van it was found in an attempt to destroy the evidence.

Wilkes will be held until at least Monday, when a bail hearing would be held. She told Judge Bellerose that she didn't understand why the Crown is opposed to her release. She insisted she's never been in trouble before and that she's co-operated with police
