Dash cam video proves handy in crash investigation

Jun 8, 2016 | 11:39 AM

A dash cam video showing a major crash unfold yesterday, June 7 has over 1,100 shares on Facebook.

The video clearly shows a gravel truck barreling through the intersection of Sixth Ave. E and 15th St. E. and then crashing into a westbound SUV.

The force of the impact causes the SUV to spin out of control and come to a rest facing North, directly in the path of a second gravel truck.

Sgt. Brandon Mudry with the Prince Albert Police Service told paNOW cases where dash cams are used as evidence are rare but not uncommon.

He said the driver just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

“The video helps certainly but the investigation is still needed to find out why,” Mudry said.

There are still no answers as to why the gravel truck did not stop at the red light.

Some people who witnessed the crash have speculated the truck’s brakes may have failed.

A second SUV also sustained damage during the incident.

Charges remain pending against the driver of the gravel truck.

Three teenagers, ages 14 to 16, were sent to hospital.

Mudry said they have all since been released from hospital without “significant” injuries.
