P.A. businesses honoured during annual Sam McLeod Awards

Apr 22, 2016 | 7:15 AM

The best businesses in Prince Albert were awarded Thursday night, showcasing some of the city’s most successful retailers and most influential leaders.

The Sam McLeod awards were presented to the best businesses in categories which included non-profit organization, female business leader of the year and young entrepreneur.

Taking home the award for Community Involvement was Kevin Proctor with Scotia Bank.

“It’s something that the team really deserves,” Proctor said. “Everybody in the branch worked hard to give to the community and give up their own time and pick the events they thought were most meaningful to them.”

The Prince Albert Scotia Bank Branch was given to many local charities including Children’s Haven and Try for Kids.

Lakeland Ford took the coveted business of the year award.

Scott Newsom, managing partner with Lakeland Ford, said it was an honour to receive the award.

“This is definitely a feather in our cap for Business of the Year,” Newsom said. “It’s incredible. It really comes back to staff, and we have the world’s best staff, and it just makes coming to work every day great. It’s a great opportunity and a great award; we’re so happy to receive it.

The 2015 Legacy Award Recipient was presented to Frank Dunn, who was also presented with a special Star Blanket.

The Samuel McLeod Business awards have been given out since 2006 and have grown in size and prestige.
