The Travelodge was filled with hundreds of people today who donate their time to some of the community’s most vulnerable.

During National Volunteer Week, running from April 10 to 16, Prince Albert Parkland Health Region (PAPHR) recognized long-serving volunteers within the health region. Awards were presented to 259 recipients during a special banquet.

Sonya Jahn, Regional Director of Volunteer Services for PAPHR, was happy important people were being acknowledged.

“Today’s a really, really special day and we’re so excited to celebrate the many wonderful contributions that (the volunteers) are making,” Jahn said. “We’re really excited to be able to recognize people that have been volunteering from five to 70 years of volunteer services.”

Awards were given to individuals and groups, like schools and churches who have spent time volunteering with PAPHR.

Volunteering can include a variety of activities including delivering Meals on Wheels, spending time with residents in care homes or helping with recreational therapy activities.

PAPHR has roughly 3,500 volunteers.

“I’m so grateful and thankful for all of the work of all of our volunteers. They are just so incredible and I just can’t say enough wonderful things about all of the work that they do and I sincerely thank them for their contributions.”
