Shellbrook health centre back to full bed capacity

A five-bed reduction for inpatients at the Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook is now over.

A shortage of registered nurses at the centre started the over 3-month bed reduction. The number of beds dropped from 20 to 15 in December.

The Prince Albert Parkland Health Region is still facing an ongoing shortages for registered nurses, but recent recruitments at this health centre have helped with getting the number of beds back to capacity.

“While there continues to be a need for relief nurses currently, recent recruitment and the use of contract nurses has allowed the health region to staff for full inpatient capacity,” said Carol Gregoryk, vice-president for Intergrated Health Services in a release.
