Piglet needed for kisses

Apr 11, 2011 | 6:24 AM

Staff at Westview Community School are looking for one little piggy for their vice principal to kiss.

“I would be interested in kissing a little pig as long as it wasn’t big, hairy and ugly,” said vice-principal Shelley Smith.

It might seem like a strange statement, but it’s for a good cause.

Smith said she’ll only do it if the school can raise $200 for after school programs.

Pam Walters, an education assistant who came up with the idea, said the school needs to provide its students with as much opportunity as possible.

“Right now we have very little funding that goes towards after school program,” said Walters.

“We’d like to see quality programming to provide to our West Flat students and provide skills for them.”

While it’s a good cause and will most certainly result in some good laughter for kids and staff involved, the problem is locating the little pig.

“I’ve called petting zoos, they’re trying to find a pig as well, and I was told that farmers now a days don’t raise pigs,” Walters said.

She’s been trying for two weeks.

At this stage, the fundraising is on hold until they can find a pig.

So Walters has taken her search online to appeal to farmers to let a little piggy go to school.

Anyone with an available piglet is asked to call Walters at 922-0404.
