Case of men accused of killing teen going to trial

EDITOR’S NOTE: To clarify, Greg Chovin was Herron’s lawyer at the time of the bail hearing, but Mary McAuley is his lawyer for the preliminary and trial phases.

The two men charged with killing a Prince Albert teen last spring will have their case committed to trial.

Clayton James Bear, 17, was shot at a home in the 500-block of 27th Street East in April 2014 and died in hospital.

Jordan Christopher Herron, from Prince Albert, and Orren Johnson, from Alberta, were arrested soon after and were both charged with first-degree murder.

Johnson has been in custody since that time, but Herron was released on bail last July.

What happened during Herron’s hearing is subject to a publication ban, but his lawyer at the time, Greg Chovin, said there are multiple conditions of his release, among them electronic monitoring.

Trial dates have yet to be set.
