P.A. man fined after unlawfully hunting moose and elk

Jun 26, 2015 | 7:37 AM

A Prince Albert man has been fined $9,400 under The Wildlife Act.

Armand Nadeau was found guilty of two charges under the Wildlife Act and one charge under the Fisheries Act.

After calls were made to the ministry of environment’s Turn In Poachers (TIP) line on Sept. 15 and 19, 2014, conservation officers began to investigate complaints of a man unlawfully hunting moos and elk.

The same person, Nadeau, was also charged in April for unlawfully marketing fish.

“The public’s assistance is invaluable as we work to protect and preserve Saskatchewan’s natural resources,” ministry of environment compliance and enforcement director Ken Aube said in a statement.

“Our laws are designed to provide effective management of wildlife and fish populations to ensure hunting and angling opportunities are available now and in the future.”

Nadeau was fined $1,400 for the unlawful hunting of a moose in the Jansen area.

He was fined $7,000 for the unlawful hunting of an elk and was also fined $1,000 for the unlawful marketing of the fish.

The court’s decision, which also took into account three previous wildlife-related convictions, resulted in a three-year hunting suspension for Nadeau.

The suspension is in addition to the fines he’ll have to pay.

If anyone suspects any wildlife, fisheries, forestry or environment violations, they can call their local ministry of environment office, Saskatchewan’s toll-free Turn In Poachers (TIP) line at 1-800-667-7561 or #5555 for SaskTel cell phone users.
