Wesmor grads looking forward to next step

A small group of Prince Albert high school graduates are looking forward to continuing their education.

Students from Wesmor High School graduated Wednesday at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre in Prince Albert.

The group of 24 were lively, chatty and happy as they prepared to take the next steps in their lives at the event.

“It was a fantastic school year with our students, working hard persevering,” said Principal Cory Trann. “We’ve added a few new courses this year which are really exciting, with our expanding of our Emergency Services Response training course.”

Trann added that a few students will be heading on to Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP) pursuing careers as teachers.

Among those students will be valedictorian Sandy Anderson.

Looking back on his years in high school Anderson said there were times he almost lost focus, but kept strong.

“Trying not to skip class and just trying my hardest to get along with the teachers and trying to stay out of trouble,” said Anderson. “You get to like really know the teachers and stuff.”

Anderson’s sister is a teacher, and that is part of his drive to want to become one himself.

“My sister really influenced me to teach, so that’s what I’m probably going to do,” said Anderson.

And he’ll have no shortage of experience from Wesmor, having spent a lot of his time outside of the classroom volunteering.

“I volunteer with the Student Leadership Council and I also was student voice for the school,” said Anderson.

He also volunteered with the special education students.
