Victim found in Punnichy shed identified by community

While the RCMP aren’t identifying the individual who was murdered in Punnichy recently, it’s no secret to the community.

paNOW has learned that 43-year-old Clayton Cyr is the victim, after he was killed and found in a shed on June 3.

In front of the shed where Cyr’s body was found stand two long, narrow candles each with a drawing of Jesus on the front. Resting next to them was a white cross laying in the brown and green grass. The door of the shed was left wide open.

Rumours are being tossed around the village of about 200 as to how the man died. However, everyone seems to have a different story. The one common theme is that the home where it happened stood out on a quiet street.

“They’ve been partying daily there for probably the last month,” said one man, who wanted to remain anonymous.

He said he was shocked and disappointed to learn of Cyr’s death, whom he had known for a number of years.

“He was always happy, friendly, super nice guy to me,” he described. “He was just a guy that drifted from house to house, didn’t really have a job, didn’t really have a place.”

“He had a past, we all have pasts, but it was nothing that I think he deserved to be murdered for,” he added.

He said Cyr was a father and he didn’t believe the attack was random. Even with a murder in such a tiny community, the man wasn’t worried for his safety.

Police haven’t yet released how Cyr died. Nobody has been charged in the murder at this time.
