Big money for Children’s Haven

Mar 25, 2011 | 6:21 PM

After 35 hours, the Children’s Haven is walking away with $108,667.

The last two days was the Power 99FM Radio Marathon for Children’s Haven.

Carol soles, co-director of the Children’s Haven, said it was a steady pace over the two days.

“It was very humbling to have people come up and tell you their stories and give you the money and they want to ensure the children have a safe place,” she said, adding she met with all kinds of people from truckers to doctors.

She said the money was overwhelming and shows how great Prince Albert is.

“We never expect anything because every dollar we get is a dollar we didn’t have when we started.

“We never have a goal – it’s just ‘bring it on,’” she said.

Soles said the money is going things such as repairs, diapers, clothes and food.

She said there are stories that stick with her.

“The one that really touches my heart all the time is the mom that has a baby receiving chemotherapy and she leaves her other two children with us while she takes the baby to Saskatoon and that just breaks my heart every time because a baby shouldn’t have cancer and a mother’s heart shouldn’t have to break like that … at least we can maybe offer her a bit of comfort by allowing her not to have to worry about her other children.”

The radio marathon is an annual event.
