Natural gas consumption record set in Saskatchewan

Jan 6, 2015 | 6:10 AM

Temperatures dipping close to -30 degrees C led to a new natural gas consumption record in Saskatchewan on Sunday night.

In a 24-hour period between Sunday and Monday, SaskEnergy said it delivered 1.27 million GigaJoules of gas to customers. That edges out the old record of 1.24 million GigaJoules set in December 2013.

Part of it has to do with growth. SaskEnergy said more than 7,300 new customers were added to the grid since the old record was set.

The average home uses about 105 GigaJoules of gas annually.
