NDP raises issues first day back at Saskatchewan legislature

The first day back at the Legislature and it sure could give you a taste of the upcoming provincial election.

The NDP raised a number of issues it is likely to take to the people this fall including rent control and a review of potash royalties.

And even though provincial coffers have increased thanks largely to revenue from potash, Dwain Lingenfelter thinks it is an issue worth talking about.

“People are saying yeah Brad Wall and the government have a lot of money, the CEO of PotashCorp has a lot of money, but I don't have any more money in my house,” said Lingenfelter.

But Premier Brad Wall goes so far as to call such ideas, which he says would hinder the economic growth in the province, as reckless and even crazy.

“Breaking a deal in the middle of a deal, as we would in the royalty case, is maybe not the best signal we want to send to other industries that may want to invest,” said wall.

So even though the writ won't drop for several more months yet, the campaign is already underway…at least in the halls of the Legislature.
