Sask. children score low in study

Studies looking into the social, verbal, physical and communication skills of children in Saskatchewan are coming back with negative results.

“They measure children in Kindergarten, or five-year-olds, in the area of language and cognitive developments, communication skills, social skills, emotional maturity and physical health and well-being,” said vice president of Primary Health Services with the Prairie North Health Region, Glennys Uzelman.

She said with children in Saskatchewan scoring lower than the rest of the country, this can lead to problems down the road.

“(They are) less likely to learn, are less likely to be able to get along with others, are more apt to go into criminal activity and their future is much more bleak than for children that are well prepared
