Hawerchuk to come to Prince Albert

Mar 2, 2011 | 5:38 AM

NHL great Dale Hawerchuk is coming to Prince Albert this spring. Hawerchuk will be the key note speaker for this year’s Kinsmen Athelete and Sportsman of the year banquet.

Hawerchuck played 17 seasons in the NHL with Winnipeg, Buffalo, St Louis and Philadelphia. He retired in 1997 after amassing 1407 points and was inducted into the hockey hall of fame in 2001.

He was the youngest player to reach 100 points in a season, a record that’s since been broken by Sidney Crosby. Hawerchuk never won a Stanley Cup during his career, but he was a key member of the 1987 Canada Cup Team that defeated the Soviets. Hawerchuk had a goal and two assists in the decisive third game of the finals.

The banquet, put on in conjunction with Rawlco Radio and the Prince Albert Raiders, will be held on May 13 at the Art Hauser Centre.
