PA to host 4-H Regional Show and Sale

Jun 7, 2014 | 11:39 AM

Regional 4-H club members will have a chance to show off their stock in Prince Albert.

Six 4-H clubs making up nearly 100 club members will come together at the 84th annual 4-H Regional Finished Beef Show and Sale next week.

“This is the finale for their project for the year, so these kids have picked out their animals in the fall of 2013,” said Patty Soloducha, assistant manager and show coordinator of the Prince Albert Exhibition Association. “They’ve worked with them all year long, some of them with the cow/calf projects they’ve watched their females from last year calf.”

She said it’s been a lot of work for the club members who had to feed, groom and train their cows.

“These members have worked hard all year long to get these animals ready for the show and sale.”

Soloducha added that it helps teach the members the fully process of beef ranching.

“It’s helping promote agriculture and beef producers,” said Soloducha. “This is just 4-H’s way to facilitate the beef producers in the area and future ranchers.”

Soloducha said that there will be a lot of features from the previous year as well as some new attractions.

“As in previous years we have our female show happening on the first day,” said Soloducha. “We’re doing the Minute To Win It for the kids again on the Sunday night, and as well something new this year for the kids Glenmore Equipment is doing the Beef Industry Challenge Questionnaire, so that quizzes the kids of their knowledge on their projects.”

She added Monday will feature more show events and then the big sale.

“It’s our final day with some showmanship classes in the morning and the steers in the afternoon,” said Soloducha. “Everything is capped off in the evening with our sale.”

There will be a charity steer this year which has been raised by the Choiceland 4-H Club.

“The proceeds from that are being donated to Habitat for Humanity in Nipawin.”

Soloducha said on top of all of these events three scholarships will be handed out to club members as well.

“We have three different scholarships we give out, one for intermediate members, one for senior members and another one for an all age scholarship,” said Soloducha. “Those are donated by the Rawlinson Family the Anderson Family and Neil’s Thompson donate those.”

“We have a series of judges that judge the scholarships and do an interview for the members as well.”

Soloducha concluded that none of this would be possible without the help of volunteers and interest from local buyers.

“Its continued success is from the 4-H families in the area as well as our volunteers and our sponsors,” said Soloducha. “Without them we couldn’t keep this wonderful 4-H Youth Project happening in our area.”

The Show and Sale runs Sunday June 8 and Monday June 9 at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre.
