Rider gets laughs at 9th annual SaskPower Breakfast

It was all laughs during ninth annual SaskPower ‘Training for Life’ Breakfast in support of the Special Olympics Saskatchewan and Raider Education Fund.

On Tuesday, a sold out guest list that included Prince Albert business people, police, and city officials packed the Ches Leach Lounge for the breakfast event.

Guest speaker Mike McCullough gave an inspirational speech on his journey into the CFL full of non-stop jokes that kept the crowd entertained.

The linebacker, originally from Ontario, said he thought the fans were crazy in Saskatchewan.

“[You] put the fan in fanatic,” he said to the crowd.

On the first day of tryouts in high school, McCullough explained he had such bad poison ivy he was forced to sit out, afterwards he said he never wanted to go back.

Luckily, the player who’s been on the team since 2003 received some words of wisdom from his mother. “She said ‘you start something, you finish it.’”

Bruce Vance, business manager of Prince Albert Raiders said this fundraiser is important for both the education fund and Special Olympics Saskatchewan.

“Mike is certainly a very well-known athlete in the province,” Vance said. “People are excited to hear him talk and his thoughts on the year and he’s just one of those good guys that get you going early in the morning.”

“Our speakers are motivational. They try and get everybody off to a good start in their day and Mike certainly fills that bill,” Vance added.
