City offers differing account of truck theft

City officials are providing new details about a vehicle theft from the Old City Yards on Friday morning, and their account conflicts with information previously provided by the Prince Albert Police Service.

An on-duty NCO officer stated that Friday morning’s incident involved a Ford F-150 truck belonging to the city parked in the Old City Yards. The vehicle, he said, had the keys inside. An assailant took the truck and drove it through the front gates of the yard, damaging it.

However, director of public works Colin Innes told an inquiring Coun. Rick Orr during Monday’s council meeting, he was informed that the keys were not left in the vehicle.

“My understanding is that they broke into the … into the yards itself and there [were] a number of items that were taken as well as a number of things that were vandalized as well. So, it sounds like there was a lot of damage that had occurred with it and that our insurer had advised that. I’ve been told that the keys were not in the vehicle,” he said.
