Youth in custody dies following medical distress

A 16 year old boy being held on remand at the Prince Albert Youth Residence has died.

Staff at the facility noticed the young man was under some type of medical distress and he was taken to hospital Wednesday.

The youth died the following afternoon.

The police, Coroner’s office and the Saskatchewan Advocate for Children and Youth have been notified, which is standard practice when this type of incident occurs.

Police say the boy was being held on three counts of assault and one count of assaulting a probation officer.
