UPDATED: New steakhouse coming to Prince Albert

Aug 13, 2013 | 4:16 PM

The City of Prince Albert has confirmed a new Mr Mikes Steakhouse Casual will be moving into the Cornerstone Shopping District along 15th Street East.

The permit for the restaurant was approved by Prince Albert’s city council on Monday evening. The permit allows the restaurant’s developer to build at 945-801 15th Street East.

Dave Nussbaumer, owner of the Mr Mikes Steakhouse Casual franchise in Yorkton said he along with the other business owners are very excited about the venture.

“They’re going to hopefully start building this fall. We’ve got everything off to the architects right now and then we would like to have an opening sometime in the early to late spring of 2014,” he said.

Nussbaumer, along with the business owners, chose Prince Albert because of the growing area.

“I think there’s lots of steady income there … the pulp and paper industry is going to turn around in the future again and I think the North has a lot of things going on that would make it conducive to open a business like that,” he explained.

At this time, he estimates the franchise will bring around 65 part-time and full-time jobs, which is comparable to the Yorkton location.

“[There] are rave reviews about it in Yorkton,” he said, which should be a good sign of how it will do in Prince Albert because they “expect it to do the same or even better in Prince Albert.”

Nussbaumer described the food as a casual “meat and potatoes” kind of place with great steak and burgers.

Mr Mikes Steakhouse Casual has numerous locations in British Columbia and Alberta, and has one Saskatchewan location in Yorkton. This will be its first location in the Northern part of the province.
