6th annual Bowl for Kids Sake this weekend

Mar 7, 2013 | 5:14 AM

The sixth-annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake will be held Saturday in Prince Albert.

The event at the Minto Bowling Centre with glow bowling from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. followed by a dance from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. and each lane will get a pizza.

Event fundraiser and coordinator Allyson Wall said they have a theme every year, and with the organization celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the theme is “Celebrating 100 Years.”

“We’re asking everyone to dress up from their favorite decade. Maxwell Music will be supplying the music for the dance, I believe Nigel [Maxwell] will be playing music from all the different decades,” Wall explained.

“Anyone of any age can come on out, I think we have four lanes left right now, so hopefully we’ll fill up by Saturday.”

The annual fundraiser is a way for the organization to raise much-needed money to recruit ‘Bigs’ and other volunteers.

“We have 18 Littles on our waiting list, right now all the money we’re raising in Prince Albert is going to recruitment and kind of promotions and marketing trying to recruit these Bigs to come in and getting that waiting list in Prince Albert down,” Wall said.

She said their main focus is expanding their programming and to help serve more kids by recruiting those volunteers and ‘Bigs’ to the organization.

Last year, the fundraiser brought in $5,500 and Wall said her goal this year is $8,000.

The cost to take part in this year’s event is $50 per person, or $300 per lane, and includes the two hours of glow bowling, entrance into the dance and the pizza. It’s only $20 for anyone who wants to just come to the dance.
