Operation Red Nose a complete success: Lions Club

Jan 3, 2013 | 5:27 AM

The Prince Albert Lions Club’s annual Operation Red Nose was a complete success this year, helping about 150 residents find a safe and sober ride home.

Operation Red Nose began on Nov. 30 and ran until New Year’s Day.

Jim Wilm with the Lions Club said the program is there to help make sure that anyone going out into the community for any kind of holiday and their car both had a safe ride home.

New Year’s Eve was busy for the program, seeing 42 rides take place from about midnight to just after 4 a.m.

“New Year’s Eve we had donations in excess of $565 which puts our total up somewhere around the $2,500 for the total. The community benefits from this as well because all these funds that were donated all goes back to youth programs in the city of Prince Albert and we are very excited about that, that we’re able to take these [donations] and turn them back into the community,” Wilm said.

He estimated they gave about 150 rides this year, which he calls exceptional.

No major incidents occurred during Operation Red Nose.

“For all the people who came out and volunteered for us, we just can’t say a huge enough thank you. They’re not only members of the Lions Club but members of the community that did come out,” Wilm said.

He also sends out a big thanks to everyone who helped sponsor Operation Red Nose this year.
Wilm said they have nothing stopping them from organizing it again for next year.
