Raiders win a weird one 5-3 over the Pats

Nov 30, 2012 | 8:35 PM

In a wacky, weird and wild game, the Prince Albert Raiders beat the Regina Pats 5-3 Friday at the Art Hauser Centre.

Although they dominated the shot clock 53-14, the Raiders were actually down 1-0 after the first with Pats defenceman Alex Theriau scoring a power play goal, his first of two in the game.

The Raiders answered and scored three goals in the second period, then another two in the third to go on and win 5-3.

The Raiders got all their goals off just three sticks and Anthony Bardaro and Mike Winther both scored a pair, while Leon Draisaitl added one.

Draisaitl, the Deutschland Dangler, is hot and now has seven points in all of his last five games, two goals and five assists. He now leads the WHL in rookie scoring with 26 points and 18 assists.

Heading into the game, Anthony Bardaro was struggling to find points, with just four points in 12 November games. He had two goals and an assist in the game. He snapped an 11-game goalless streak, having last scored Nov. 2 in a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Bardaro, 20, now has eight goals and 20 points in 27 games.

Winther broke a five-game goalless drought, now has 11 goals and 25 points in as many games.
Theriau had two goals for the Pats, while Adam Brooks had the other.

Matt Hewitt made 48 saves on 53 shots and the 19-year-old goaltender kept his visiting Pats in the game. Raiders goaltender Luke Siemens made 11 saves on just 14 shots.

Friday’s game was Canadian Tire Teddy Bear Toss Night and Mike Winther’s power play snipe was the cue for the ice to get littered by stuffed animals to start the second period.

All stuffed animals collected at the game will be donated to the Victoria Hospital’s pediatric ward.
With the win, the Raiders improve to 19-8-0-2 and remain first in the Eastern Conference. Both the Raiders and the Pats will meet again Dec. 2 in Regina.
