Police suggest protection against vehicle thefts

Nov 12, 2012 | 4:11 PM

Police are reminding residents to take steps to protect their vehicles and property after several crimes over the weekend.

Police are reporting several break and enters to garages, willful damages to vehicles, an attempted theft of a vehicle and a vehicle that had its contents stolen.

Several vehicles had damage done to them including smashed windows. Police reported vehicles on the 300-block of 21st Street West, the 500-block of 15th Street West, the 300-block of Dunn Drive and the 400 block of 26th Street East all were damaged but had nothing stolen from them.

As well, police report a vehicle on the 100-block of 27th Street East was broken into after a person smashed a window. A thief then made off with sporting and computer equipment.

Police report a vehicle was broken into on the 400-block of 18th Street West. A person tried to steal the car but was unsuccessful, in the end only damaging the vehicle's ignition.

Garages were also targeted over the weekend.

Police report two break-and-enters occurred on garages on the 400- and 500-blocks of 15th Street West. Nothing was reported stolen at the time, however.

Police are reminding people the best deterrent is to lock vehicles and to remove valuables from a vehicle or at least keep them out of sight.

As well, police are asking the public to report suspicious activity to the police to aid in investigation and crime prevention.
