Construction on the last phase of Prince Albert Transit’s central depot has restarted and is expected to reach completion before the year is up.

On Sept.30, work started after a several-month delay, with workers beginning to fence the property. The city said paving will commence early October, and busses will use the facility as soon as it is complete.

Keri Sexsmith, transportation manager for the city said the idea for a central hub was made increase safety and efficiency.

“It will be the main transfer station for all of our busses,” said Sexsmith. “Moving them to this location will provide a more up-to-date, easier to transfer location for our passengers.

“As well, it’ll get the busses off the street, which will make it more safer for the driving public.”
Currently, busses use Central Avenue just north of 15th Street East as their transfer point. Once the depot is completed, busses all busses will stop there and to transfer passengers.
