The “BIG” Silent Auction

Feb 27, 2012 | 11:41 AM

The “Big” Silent Auction begins today in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Albert and District.

The money raised from the auction will go towards the recruiting and screening of volunteers to be matched with the 18 kids waiting for a mentor.

Allyson Wall, coordinator, said this is the first year the organization is holding the silent auction after getting the idea from a national conference members attended last year.

“We are excited. It’s something different,” she said.

“It’s not a lot of man power for us to do (this), like it’s something we can do right out of our office. Once the person is a successful bidder we can send the items right out to them, it’s cost effective for us, and helps us raise big money.”

Wall said they’ve received a lot of support from local businesses and have also received donated items from Alberta.

Some of items up for bid are from the Toronto Blue Jays, hotel packages from Banff, Jasper, and Canmore, a spa package in Whistler. There are also tourism packages for Calgary, Edmonton and Drumheller.

Wall explained people can place a bid by visiting the organization’s Facebook page.

“People will like our fan page on Facebook, which is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Albert and District, and they go under events, and they will see all the pictures and starting bids for the items, what they can do is just put what they want to bid on them,” Wall said.

She said you can also follow them on Twitter.

The auction closes on Mar. 9.
