Local RM could feel the boom

Nov 22, 2010 | 10:37 AM

By 2012, the Rural Municipality of Paddockwood could look a lot different than it does now.

During some recent meetings with the RM, the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division was informed of some big development plans.

“We had been told that in the Candle Lake area, there were around 100 lots being developed, but there was the potential for 300 or 400 more than that,” said director of education, Bill Cooke.

As well, upwards of 300 lots could be developed near Christopher Lake.

Cooke said, it's a bit premature to start planning now, adding they need some confirmation first.

“If the people buying these lots, once the lots are developed, are in the work force, bringing children with them, then we will look at the potential for our schools and whether or not we have to do more planning,” said Cooke.

He said as it stands now, Meath Park and Christopher Lake schools could handle some new students, but if there were more than 100 new students coming in, then changes would have to be made.
