Haunted House tradition to continue

Oct 21, 2011 | 5:13 PM

Persistance has paid off for the hosts of one of Prince Albert’s Haunted Houses.

Earlier this week, organizers Charmain Smith and Carrie McCann found themselves without a venue for the event when the South Hill Mall was unable to provide the space.

With no hard feelings towards the business, the two youth workers thought they were out of luck. That idea was especially difficult because they had just taken over the annual project from the Mann Art Gallery in order to help fundraise for their home Sundance Haven.

Luckily, a little publicity turned the tables with Brent McDonald from Crown Cleaners stepped in to provide some space at the old Prince Albert Meat Market on top of the Wheel-a-While.

“It’s a great fundraiser for them and my kids have went through (the haunted house) over the years and I thought it was a good experience for them,” he said. “And my heart was in it—I just think it’s a great opportunity.”

Smith said it was great that they could finally put the show on and keep the tradition alive.

“I remember taking my own children over the years, so it’s a really big deal and we’re just thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to keep it going,” she said.

Now that the group has the space, they’ll be getting ready to make sure the haunted house is a success.

“Today we get to start the dirty work, get in there and start setting up,” said Smith.

“We’ll go in there and start cleaning and hopefully by Sunday we’ll start setting up for real.”

The Haunted House will open Oct. 27.
