Saskatchewan experiences 3.4 per cent inflation

Saskatchewan saw an increase of 3.4 per cent from September 2010 to September 2011, with Saskatoon consumers paid 3.1 per cent more while in Regina goods and services cost 3.7 more.

These inflation numbers, as defined by the consumer price index, were released by Statistics Canada Friday, October 21.

But even with the increases on bills many people in Saskatoon haven’t seemed to notice.

“It isn’t a burden,” said one person who was interviewed by paNOW.

“If you don’t have your housing paid for that can be a significant issue,” said another.

Saskatchewan and Manitoba were hit the hardest in the country this summer with a monthly increase of 0.7 per cent from August to September. In Regina, consumers paid 0.9 per cent more.

Alberta and Prince Edward Island went the other way and saw prices drop by 0.2 in that same time.

The major hot button issue for the upcoming election is rent, which went up across Saskatchewan by 2.3 per cent.
