Carlton’s record falls to 3-1, dominated by Bears 50-2

Although both teams headed into Friday’s game undefeated, it was clear which team ready to play as the Aden Bowman Bears crushed the Carlton Crusaders 50-2.

The Bears blemished Carlton’s record for the first time this season in four games (3-1) and Crusader James Thorpe had a perfect view as to why on both sides of the ball.

His biggest observation was his team’s lack of effort and thus, their lack of success.

“We knew they were a good team, we knew we were a good team but we just got lazy, basically,” said Thorpe. “I don’t know how much simpler you can put it, guys weren’t ready to play.
“It would’ve been nice to see some of the guys come out and play our best. Like me, I didn’t have my best game, but what can you do, really?”

On defence as the team’s safety, he saw his defence get picked apart by the Bears quarterback Kyle Siemens, who threw for a whopping 359 yards and four touchdowns. Tyler Hurlburt had 141 yards on four catches.

“They got a really good passing attack, they have good receivers, a good o-line and their QB’s a good player too,” said Thorpe. “Our DB’s and our defence needed to step it up and we couldn’t.”

Siemens spread the ball around to his wide array of athletic, talented receivers, especially Parker Baumgartner who had two touchdowns on three receptions for 40 yards.

“Obviously we have a lot of players that can make plays,” said Siemens. “Everyone’s contributing, it’s not just one person or someone doing it out there, it’s everyone. Anywhere I can throw the ball, it’s a good option.
“Everyone can catch the ball well and make plays, so it’s just me getting the ball to them and letting them make plays.”

The Bears also forced Crusaders bruising runner Jordan Gabriel-Cannon to only 44 rushing yards. Gabriel-Cannon’s previous season low was 96 yards against the St. Mary Marauders.

The Crusaders are in action next on Friday in North Battleford.
