FSIN’s Watson says Goodtrack not suspended but removed

Sep 29, 2011 | 2:30 PM

Interim FSIN Chief Morley Watson told reporters on Thursday Kirk Goodtrack hasn't been suspended –he's been removed.

He said the Court of Queen's Bench decision to reinstate Goodtrack earlier this month doesn't stand.

That's because he said the FSIN Economic and Community Development Commission has the authority to remove him.

“The economic and community development commission found that there are real and apparent conflicts of interests and questions regarding his conduct as the chair of SIGA,” said Watson.

But when pressed about what that “conduct” was, Watson declined to elaborate.

He said neither Thursday's Indian Government Commission meeting nor the upcoming Legislative Assembly can overturn the decision.

Watson added Chief Edward Henderson will be the vice chair until a new board chair is found.

Goodtrack was suspended in July, reinstated after court order issued

paNOW has exclusive details when it comes to the second suspension of Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) Board Chair Kirk Goodtrack.

An FSIN economic community development meeting took place in Saskatoon on Wednesday.

Goodtrack confirmed to paNOW he's been told those in attendance suspended him.

“What I've decided to do was to allow the matter to make its way through the FSIN process,” Goodtrack told paNOW.

“Which is the IGC (Indian Government Commission) will be meeting today and the Legislative Assembly will be meeting on October 5 and 6, and I'll see what transpires on those dates.”

Goodtrack was first suspended in July and reinstated through a court order in early September.

He's claimed before his initial suspension was partially due to he and former FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild agreeing that board costs needed to be drastically cut.

This time around, Goodtrack guarantees the suspension is for the same reason.

“There's no question in my mind that this is about cost-cutting measures.”
