Police say standoff and hit and run linked

Apr 12, 2011 | 12:22 PM

Police are now reporting they believe the Steele Bay stand off and the hit-and-run death of a 14-year-old, Montana Netmaker, are linked.

The 15-hour standoff, which included local officers, the SWAT team and the Saskatoon Emergency Response Team, ended peacefully at around 12:30 in the afternoon.

Police arrested a 43-year-old man who had barricaded himself in his home on Steele Bay.

There was a peaceful resolution to a standoff in the south end of the city.

“The goal we were looking for was a peaceful resolution,” said Sgt. Kelly McLean for the Prince Albert Police Service.

Police say they believe the standoff was linked to a fatal hit and run that occured on Central Ave. between Southwood Drive and 31st Street East around 9:30 last night.

Netmaker was riding her bike when she was hit by a motor vehicle and was taken to Victoria Hospital where she died of her injuries.

Police say charges against the 43-year-old man are still pending.

As well, they say the investigation continues as police execute search warrants on the house.
