Oil and gas land sales net $109 million in April

Oil and gas rights remain a big source of income for the province.

The province's latest land sale has netted nearly $110 million for Saskatchewan's coffers. With only two sales so far $152 million has been taken in.

“This was a great sale,” gushes energy and resources minister Bill Boyd in a news release issued by the province. “We had the usual strong interest in the Bakken play but our rich oil resources in the southwest are obviously causing a stir in the industry.”

Perhaps unexpectedly, more than half of that tally came from the Shaunovan area. The Weyburn/Estevan region also continues to come up big. It accounted for $40 million of the sale, $7.3 million of which was from Husky Oil for an exploratory license in the area near the U.S. border southwest of Estevan.
