To assist schools in creating and sustaining a healthy school, the Joint Consortium for School Health
(JCSH) has developed the Healthy School Planner, an online tool that will help schools assess the
health of their staff and students and support them in developing an action plan for making
improvements.

To access the tool go to the JCSH website at www.jcsh‐cces.ca.

The Ministry of Health recently passed legislation that prohibits smoking in a vehicle when a person
under the age of 16 years is present.

This legislation, which came into effect on October 1, 2010, is intended to protect children against the
harms of environmental tobacco smoke while they are being transported in a vehicle. Smoking in
vehicles when people under 16 are present will result in a monetary fine. A charge of $220 has
been established if an offense is to occur.
