There is excitement around the second annual golf tournament to raise money for the SPCA is building.

During a press conference Wednesday, organizers for the Fore for Pets Second Annual Golf

Tournament announced a $25,000 donation from Conexus Credit Union.

“This is an important start to the campaign,” said Jerry Paskiw, media co-ordinator for the event.

“Our ability to sell the event out last year was a huge success, we’ve got a considerable level of renewal for this upcoming year for sponsorships, but as always we are looking for others as well. So the momentum swing is paramount.”

The event is one of the celebrity golf tournaments in the country, and Paskiw said while they would not be releasing the list of names yet, there will be some familiar faces.

“We do have some returnees that were adamant that they wanted to be a part of this event (this) year and told us so at the conclusion of last year’s event,” he said.

All the money raised during the celebrity golf event goes towards the building campaign to create a new SPCA facility in Prince Albert.

Each year the Prince Albert SPCA looks after more than 1,300 pets, which is about a 71 per cent increase compared to a decade ago.

More than $95,000 was raised last year at the inaugural tournament.

This year’s event is set for July 21 at the Cooke Municipal Golf Course.
