Saskatoon woman organizes donations for Slave Lake fire evacuees
A woman originally from Alberta who now lives in Saskatoon is organizing a donation drop-off for people forced to evacuate from Slave Lake, Alta.
Tara Wilkins used to live just hours away from the community, and even experienced an evacuation. “Fire trucks showing up at three in the morning, blasting their horns and sirens is really scary,” said Wilkins.
Wildfires ripped through Slave Lake on Monday, destroying a large chunk of the northern community and forcing the entire town to evacuate.
Wilkins wanted to do something to help out, so she asked Kindersley Transport to donate a truck to take supplies to a central warehouse in Edmonton. From there, the supplies will be distributed to evacuation centres near Slave Lake.
