Mother nature gives gardeners the cold shoulder

It is a frustrating time if you have a green thumb.

Frost warnings have been issued almost daily for the Prince Albert area over the past week, which makes it difficult to plant anything.

It is however good for businesses who sell garden supplies.

“Our tomatoes don't stay on the shelves for more than a few hours. We have been reordering and reordering and luckily we have suppliers who can supply our needs,” said Debbie Lahaye, at John's Garden and Gift Center.

“They are kicking themselves for putting in so early, but this is Saskatchewan and you just never know what the weather is gonna do.”

Canadian Tire has also been busy restocking shelves.

“The tomato crop has been taking a pounding. People are in almost daily replacing them,” said General Manager Lyle Banting.

Banting said the best advice for tomato growers is to remember to cover them at night or keep them inside if you haven't planted them yet.

There is some relief in sight.

According to Environment Canada, overnights lows will be warmer this week.
